the gulls
white dance
of minutes,
boat bows
pointed
hour
hand
on clock
of tides
winding
&
unwound,
sky
hush
of clear
blue
finger
held to
lips of
cloud

greys of
cold ash raked
out on sea,
poke through
of sun
last ember

in neighbourhood
of dusk the air
sprung with
rain along
a street you
sprint-stumbled
to manhood upon,
on softened lawn
forever’s
hop one
dark away
in blackbird’s
cluck and eye,
the grass
a narrow
shimmering
