clashing rocks

clashing rocks*

Clashing_Rocks
Capri, Italy, image by Pepi Morelli.

a boat smashed
in midstream
you wonder how.

the open sea
closing to a
dangerous run
the deep lull
of the balancing
tide the green
glistening along
the oar
has risen dark
you slip
over the surge
amongst rock
a sky caving in blue
off the edge
of the cliffs
pohutakawa root
bare on the fall
your eye
a stern rowlock
swerving you
into this run
horizons narrowing
the afternoon sea
now an evening
current
cliffs grating
the hull
your hand touches
hands others
wrecked here
in age.

you need these
old myths
a life spelt out
in their words
