w
ith
each
passing
the autumn
lengthens,
a tide that
slows its way
in full return,
the channel moving
further and further
beyond the reach
of hand,
last leaf
lingering into the
fall of a symphony
played on tears,
the winter settles
longer in the eye,
frost on web
and dream
an old man
an old woman’s
silver that will
not be spent,
winter
becoming an
ocean
frozen
to the edge
of hades
where a moment
caught of this
world in memory
is traded like
gold,
the spring
shortens in
gust of blossom,
a quick tearing
down to burn
in summers
dry as a
desert crossing
to the styx
of autumn
that lengthens,
winter that
skins the
bone
