wind ’n’ vane
to Mark McIvor & his weathervane
was watching
the clouds wisping
on the warm blue
of afternoon sky,
from your porch,
the rattan chair,
they cut across
the view at a
fair pace,
a good day
for a sail
if i had a boat
and all that should
come with it,
was watching
with unknown intent
until it hit me;
your weathervane
the ship aloft
should have spun
miles round
by now,
your weathervane
had not budged
a single rusty inch,
your weathervane
was holding fast
to its own
direction,
sailing on just
the way it
wanted,
the wind
in vain
