floating
lay
not in a
drunk
lay
just in
ease
on grass
in that mown
gully above
the fall down
to sea
the island*
out there
that floats
into and out
of reach of
land
with the tides
a smoke line
of mountains*
writing a scroll
along the sky
beyond waiheke
sandstone cliffs
blank amidst the
dark of trees
feeling their
way down
on the further
shore the
wind storming
in the pine
like surf on
a reef
woke
me.
