the water
slurs
the floated
syllables,
the shorthand
of cloud,
the worm-leeched
timbers of
the wharf,
of cable,
of tinted glass
– a tabled ceramic
of storeyed offices –
they overlap
each other
swift as a blade
slapped over and
across the
oilstone
– the persons,
the animal you
become in
dream –
moments the
heart vaguely
disbands
assembles
into a life
while those
on the wharf
crack mussels
with a
rust-spattered
blade.
