burning

burning

Burning

we
loved the
flame
it lit
it warmed
it cooked

we
became traders
in flame
sold
bought
it in
vast
burnings

animal
rippling
face to
another face
in generation
plant rivering
oxygen climbing
in kind to another
kind are lost forever
to our ravings in fire,
their treasure of kill
that stays the web
and medicine to be
crushed from leaf
gone from our knowing
the peoples who wove
their baskets of myth
and lineage out of forest
vine of sun are turned
to smoke left to wander
as the detritus of drunken cities

the
one true god
ourselves
only
true to
ourselves

those born later
never knowing the largess
of sort branching manifold
as hues switching through
shades to another hue,
given to our keeping

knowing an
earth only
of farms of
meat grown
under glass
an earth of
man to
to burn
to poison
to stifle
only
man

justice
