Dodo

another
patient in
that ward who
had long hair
like a girl you
kept saying
and walked
or rather glided
you said, like
a girl you kept
saying over
evenings
and evenings,
would say if
asked who he
was that he
was JC, the son
of god, but
would never
answer why he
should be shut
in there with
bleach for
the floor,
and bleach
for the brain,
he told you
nights a
2000 ton
dodo bird
came and settled
itself massively
on the roof of
carrington*…
thinking on it
i see what
the you of then,
the me of late
had never
thought upon,
that the
dodo was
the weight of
the ‘presumed
extinct’, the
things we
took for done
and gone.
the ‘presumed
extinct’ within
the mind that
weigh on us
heavy as the
roof of carrington
and tons on that
to boot,
the
feathered
night that tries
to hatch us
out of the
stone eggs of
our heads,
the extinct
that would
bring the living
back
to life,
your JC
he glided
like a girl
you said
down
fluorescent
corridors
of echo
